100k Freeroll Recap: Gameweek 7

The weekend on Footstock was dominated by the non-stop drama of the October Monster (and there’s more where that came from), but the Footstock 100k Freeroll continued in the background. Some big scores resulted in a new overall leader (boo!) and a gameweek win for contest regular Kev Galvin. I’ve taken a closer look at his team below.

Gameweek 7 Team of the Week ⚽

There was no interview needed to decipher the strategy behind this week’s winning team. Kev Galvin has clearly been paying attention to some of the big winners in last year’s flagship freeroll and has followed a tried-and-tested approach.

A goalkeeper and full back from Chelsea, together with a Wolves defensive double-up, provides a solid base. Further forward, the duos continue, with Barnes and Vardy of Leicester and Ward-Prowse and Ings from the Saints. An ever-dangerous pair from last season’s champions in the shape of TAA and Salah is a worthwhile way to use up quite a few stars, and the “wildcard” option is Brighton’s rising star Tariq Lamptey: if he gets a few more goals this season, Kev’s team could be a real challenger!

Kammy Watch 👀

Gameweek 7 was the second best of the season for Footstock ambassador Chris Kamara in the 100k freeroll. Having spent too much time on the bench or treatment table in the early weeks, Joao Cancelo and Hakim Ziyech came good for Kammy this week, and there were further respectable scores from the likes of Vardy, Mane and Sterling. Nevertheless, the big man has his work cut out if he’s going to get himself in among the prizes by the time May rolls around.

But, of course, that is the beauty of the tournament – it only takes six big scores between now and the end of the season for any team to bag the ultimate prize. Believe in the unbelievable, Kammy!

There are more gameweek prizes up for grabs this weekend, and of course throughout the whole season. And don’t forget, the winner of the top prize of £25,000 will be based on a team’s top 6 gameweeks – so you can enter at any point up to gameweek 32 and still be in with a chance of a first-place finish in the Footstock 100K Freeroll!
